The Story of Wurzelmania!

The original 'Wurzelmania!' website was the brainchild of Paul Gunningham -  born out of admiration for The Wurzels and Adge Cutler -  in 1999. Paul developed a fascinating and informative website and had also, for some time, been a campaigner for getting both Adge Cutler and Wurzel material released in the CD format. His major victory came in 2000 when EMI released 'The Finest Arvest Of The Wurzels', a compilation CD, and was asked to write the detailed sleeve-notes booklet that came with it. With the help of many fans emailing snippets of information his website grew. Professor Wurzel was in the process of assisting in enlarging the discography pages when Paul was tragically killed in 2007 in a road traffic accident shortly after leaving home to go on holiday with his family.

Paul's widow gave the entire website (including the 'Scrumpy & Western' pages devoted to remembering the many acts from the west country who played similar music of to The Wurzels) to Frank Blades (of the tribute band 'The Mangled Wurzels') in order that Paul's work would not be lost - and in Paul's own words the site's 'mission' was

.... to help spread the word to the uninitiated about Adge Cutler & The Wurzels' music - to share information and inform others interested in keeping the spirit of Adge Cutler alive, to fill in the gaps in our collective Wurzel knowledge gathered here for posterity

Frank Blades and Professor Wurzel overhauled and updated Paul's site which then remained the oracle for 'all things Wurzel' for many years.  Due to other commitments, and with Frank leaving the Mangled Wurzels, the site remained untouched for nearly a decade.

In 2020 Professor Wurzel developed a new website devoted to archiving both The Wurzels' and Adge Cutler's musical past (and present!) as a sister-site to the band's official site www.thewurzels.com  giving detail that didn't fit comfortably within the official site.  In 2021 contact between Frank and Professor Wurzel resulted in the copyright for the original Wurzelmania! being handed over to Professor Wurzel. Ownership of the domain name for Wurzelmania followed in 2022 and Professor Wurzel's Wurzelmania! was born.
