  Song Lyrics

The Band Line-Up:

At the time of the recording of this single The Wurzels consisted of Pete Budd, Tommy Banner, John Morgan, Sedge Moor.

The Tracks:

The song was penned after hearing from upset locals in the quiet village of Laverton, near Norton St Philip. The villagers were concerned about the effects of a proposed 66m wind turbine and news of the song led to huge support for its release to help highlight the concerns of this small community. Sil Willcox, The Wurzels' manager was quoted as saying “Renewable energy has to be considered as an important part of the make up of our energy solutions, but imposing these turbines on communities after they have been opposed by local parishes and refused by local planners seems very unfair." The track was produced by part-time Wurzel Louie Nicastro.

"The Mendip Windfarm Song"  - Song Lyrics

  • T'was a warm and misty morning
When a note dropped through my door
With a picture of a thing that I had never seen before
A proposal for a turbine thing they're putting next to me
And I can't do nowt about it cos it's some green policy
Them windfarms they'll be all across the Mendips
You'll see 'em 'cross from Wells to Stanton Drew
Them windfarms they'll be all across the Mendips
They'm sure to put the wind up me and you
  • (Chorus)
If they have to be, put 'em out to sea
Where the wind blows bright and breezy and they work efficiently
If they have to be, put 'em out to sea
Where the wind blows bright and breezy and they ain’t affecting me

  • We started our own action group with Ernie Jake and Sue
And sat around the pub all night deciding what to do
We talked to all the village folk who made it very clear
They're noisy and they're ugly and nobody wants them here
Them windfarms they'll be all across the Mendips
You'll see 'em 'cross from Laverton to Frome
Them windfarms they'll be all across the Mendips
They'm sure to put the wind up me and you
  • (Repeat chorus)
  • The planners are dictated to by them at Number Ten
rder, order!)I understand the argument for greener energy
But save our countryside for you and me
    (Repeat chorus twice)
