The Wurzels
This was The Wurzels second single in CD format - 15 years after their first. It was released on July 30th 2001 with a catalogue number of CDWURZ (7243 8 79448 2 4). It entered the UK charts on 11 August 2001 for 2 weeks, reaching number 39. Song Lyrics
At the time of the original recordings on this single The Wurzels consisted of Pete Budd, Tommy Banner and Tony Baylis.
This three track EP single marked a resurgence of the career of The Wurzels. When the 1976 Combine Harvester track was remixed by Humpafunk - a team of young team of writers/producers for Rareboy Productions Ltd - the song was instantly a public success and this EP was released (with two 'bonus' tracks - the original version of Combine Harvester - and for some reason also the original version of The Blackbird). This marked the Wurzels return to the UK singles charts for the first time since the summer of 1977. The single stayed in the Top 60 for two weeks, peaking at number 39.
This CD single was issued by EMI Gold with catalogue number CDWURZ (7243 8 79448 2 4).
CD promotional releases were made before the official release day - silver CDs with black font issue in clear plastic wallets and printed paper inserts. As can be seen in the first example the original release date was June 11th. This was postponed until 30th July. The first example below has three tracks, identical to the final release. The second example although it has the same paper insert actually only has the title track on the disc itself.
