This compilation cassette was released in June 1981 on the EMI Ideal record label, catalogue number IDL22 This cassette release - a strange compilation of Wurzel tracks mainly from LPs but two from 7" singles and one previously unreleased track - is one of the rarest of Wurzel albums. Issued on cassette in June 1981 it was purportedly re-released in 1988 on CD with an additional track (Farmer Jones' Travelling Disco Show). The conclusive evidence to verify this has not yet been uncovered. Song Lyrics
Side 1 tracks are all taken from studio recordings and as such are stand-alone. Of interest to collectors is that tracks 1 and 3 were previously unreleased. On Side 2 each track has been lifted from the original album and a small part of either the beginning or end audience sounds and inter-track chat by the band for each track has been retained to give the impression of this side being a continuous live performance.
This design of cassette shell was originally introduced in early 1977 and was by 1981 was normally produced in grey (as in the images immediately above and below). The text was printed directly onto the cassette body in blue, red or black ink. As can be seen on the images here the tape was produced with the Dolby noise reduction system to improve the quality of the sound when played on suitable players (noticeably to reduce the hiss associated with tape playback). Cassette cases were used with clear fronts and black bodies with a lightly mottled effect on the back face.
This album can also be found on a white cassette shell, and in this case the album details have been printed on paper that has been glued onto the shell
The cassette case insert follows the standard EMI Ideal label design. There are two different versions of this insert to be found. The second shown here has a misspelling in track 3 'The Wurzel Rook' instead of 'Rock'. This error occurs in both panels. Track 2 also has a misspelling of Tony Baylis - with a double 's' being used.
