We
have very little information about post-Adge Wurzels gigs from 1974
to 1999 where Zider Ed's gig archive started. If you have any dates
and venues please let us know so we can start building this archive.
Dig out those old ticket stubs, plough through those old diaries
- let's see what comes up!

Monday
6th May 1974 - Bath Pavilion, Bath
The Wurzels were booked to appear on a bill which included Fred
Wedlock and (we think) The Yetties. This was the first gig The Wurzels
performed after Adge had died; indeed it was the day after his death.
And to make things worse, there was a power cut during The Wurzels'
set, and Tommy, Pete and Tony came to the front of the stage and
performed acapello until power was restored. Now that's professionalism!
(thanks to Russ of the Cornish Wurzels who was at the gig, for his
memories on the night).
Summer
1974 (exact date unknown) - The Globe Inn, Newton
St Loe, near Bath
According
to the Wurzels World
book, after Adge's death The Wurzels 'played solidly there for a
week' to see if the band had any future...which obviously they did!
1976
(exact date unknown) - Yew Tree Country Club in
Langford
This
was apparently the venue for the recording the 1976 live album The
Combine Harvester. I have no other information about the
venue, or indeed the location (probably the village on the outskirts
of Taunton, or possibly on the outskirts of Bristol)
Monday
28th June 1976 (8pm) - Free Trade Hall, Manchester
The Wurzels plus support. Tickets £1.00. [This would be
part of a UK tour - any other dates? Ed.]
1977
(exact
date unknown) - The
Wurzels completed two sell-out major nationwide tours. They also
toured Canada, Australia and New Zealand (as noted in the Wurzel
Songbook). [If anyone has any of the dates, we'd appreciate
them. Ed.]
Sunday
3rd Septmber 1978 - Pavilion Theatre, Weymouth
The Wurzels with The Rod Owen
Orchestra, support from The Sailmakers (also signed to EMI)
and compere/comedian Dave Butler. Tickets £1.95, £1.70
and £1.30; children £1.00. See poster (below left)
1978
(exact date unknown) - The
Wurzels toured the Middle East.
Friday
23rd May to Saturday 20th September 1980 - The Wurzels
played the summer season at the Princess Theatre
in Torquay, as special guest stars supporting The
Bachelors, with The Mosaics Puppet Fantasy and Pete Price
(TV and recording star) also on the bill. According to the showbill
(above right), the season ran from Friday 23rd May (8pm show) to
Saturday 20th September, with the band playing two shows at 6pm
and 8.30 Monday through to Saturday! At least they got Sundays off!
Summer
1983 (exact date unknown) - The Wurzels promoted
their Freshly Cut album with a Summer
Show '83 tour which included a date (or more) at the Babbacombe
Theatre, Babbacombe Downs, Torquay TQ1 3LU.
Sunday
16th July 1995 - The Wurzels headlined the main
Our Price Stage at the Bristol
Community Festival at Ashton Court, Bristol. Free entrance,
pogrammes were £2.50. http://www.p4ft.co.uk/bcf.htm
