So far as can be seen Adge Cutler & The Wurzels only released one single outside of the UK - Little Darlin' b/w Mother Nature Calling. The UK version of this single, released on 12th May 1972, was Adge's final single and failed to chart. It was issued in five countries outside the UK, some as promotional items and some as full release. left - Promotional photocard issued at the time of the 'Little Darlin' release in 1972. From left to right Reg Quantrill, Tommy Banner, Adge Cutler and Tony Baylis.
No clear information has yet been found on how many countries released this record outside of the UK - either as full releases or promotional only - but evidence so far shows it was available in Holland, Canada, France, Germany and Japan. All are believed to have been released in 1972.
Dutch Release: Manufactured in Holland with the standard label for CBS singles in that country. It has the catalogue number CBS8067 with matrix 8067. A and 8067. B (hand-etched onto the master) the release is identical to the 1972 UK version. This example was produced for the juke-box market, i.e. the centre prongs have been removed.
The picture sleeve image is taken from the publicity photocard of the time as can be seen on the UK release page.
Canadian Release: A link between CBS and Columbia in Canada saw this single released on the Columbia record label in that country. It has the catalogue number C4-3063 with matrix C4-3063A-1C 2-6 and C4-3063B-1A C2-G The release is identical to the 1972 UK version.
A picture sleeve was not used for this release (as was the case in the UK also) and it was produced in the generic Columbia sleeve .
French Release: Manufactured in France with the standard label for CBS singles in that country. It has the catalogue number CBS8067 with matrix 8067A and 8067B . The release is identical to the 1972 UK version. This example came from a radio station - Sud Radio, a privately-owned French radio station. The date is handwritten on the A side 18-7-72. A similar date stamp appears on the back of the sleeve.
The picture sleeve image is is of an American group Maurice Williams And The Zodiacs- for the full story refer to UK release page.
This example is the only known test pressing (to date) of a foreign, in this case French, Adge Cutler release. It is interesting to note the date stamped on it of 12th June 1972 which is some 5 weeks before the date on the radio station example mentioned above. The handwritten “CBS” on the label would seem to indicate that the records were pressed in France by a pressing plant for CBS rather than by CBS themselves. Many thanks to Peter May for these images.
The matrix information in the run-off on this test disc is identical to the release shown above indicating that the same master was used for both. Of more significance is the handwritten information in black ink - this is undoubtedly from the hand of Adge Cutler himself. Unfortunately how this came into Adge's possession and indeed how it was then passed on to someone else is not known.
German Release: Manufactured in Germany with the standard label for CBS singles in that country. It has the catalogue number CBS S 8067 with matrix 8067- A and 8067- B hand-etched onto the master. The release is identical to the 1972 UK version.
The sleeve is identical back and front, unusually. The image is taken from the publicity photocard of the time, as can be seen on the UK release page
A promotional release can also be found for this record. The vinyl is identical but comes in the standard CBS ' Blitzinformation' promo sleeve
Japanese Release: Manufactured in Japan and issued on the EPIC record label (part of the CBS/Columbia group) this is a promotional release, no evidence yet being found that the single was ever officially released. It has the catalogue number ECPA 38 with matrix ECPA-38A 1-A-1 AND ECPA-38B1 1-A-3. The release is identical to the 1972 UK version.
The picture sleeve image is a brightly coloured affair with most of the text being in Japanese. The inner sleeve is the standard CBS issue for Japan.
...and comes with a detailed insert mostly in Japanese - yet to be translated!!! The release is identical to the 1972 UK version.
