EMI Columbia started producing 'musicassettes' in the mid 1960s but it wasn't until July 1970 - when they opened their own cassette duplication facilities at their manufacturing plant in Hayes - that EMI cassette and 8-track issuing really began in earnest, embarking on a huge programme of releasing their back catalogue on tape.It was in 1975 that the first cassette was produced for an Adge Cutler & The Wurzels album: In all 10 cassettes were released between 1975 and 2003 that were based on original Adge Cutler albums or later compilations. After 2003 (if not a year or so earlier) the production of musicassettes generally was rapidly scaled down as they lost ground to CD sales and no Wurzel cassettes were produced after 2003.
